Mikhael Portela

Draftman and Tattoo Artist

ABOUT ME, WHAT I DO AND HOW I STARTED

My name is Mikhael Portela, and I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I studied computer science at university and found tattooing as a way to return to what I'm truly passionate about: drawing and art in general. I have 8 years of experience as a tattoo artist, specializing in styles such as Blackwork, Realism shading, Sketch, Neotraditional, Japanese Traditional, among others that I enjoy. I am the owner of Comet Tattoo Studio in Mexico, where I currently tattoo and teach classes for beginner students.

A Journey Through My Tattoo Creations

Explore some of my work, here you will find different techniques and styles of tattoos that I like.

Greywash Realism

Few lines, saturations and lots of shadows, my favorite tattoo styles, some of these works I did in a single session and others in multiple sessions.

Blackwork

There's something powerful about working with pure black ink. I enjoy the challenge of creating bold compositions using only solid fills, lines, and contrast. These pieces reflect my taste for striking designs, strong contrasts, and the drawing itself as the core of the tattoo.

Many tattoos, and a story behind each one

I've always loved drawing. When I was a kid, I used to lose my drawings all the time. Tattooing has everything I love about drawing—with the added bonus that I don’t lose them. In fact, I often get to see many of them again and again.
